A Poem Called “What Does It Mean To Be Wild”

What does it mean to be wild, what does wild mean to me
It means to be as free as free can be, without a care in the world
It means to be fearless, and live life as if there is no tomorrow
It means that true beauty is truly undefined,
it can be whatever you want it to be
It means you say whatever you feel loudly and proudly.

What does it mean to be wild, what does wild mean to me
It means that you live your life by your definition of success
It means to love passionately with all your heart
It means to follow your dreams without inhibition
It means to be yourself no matter what.

What does it mean to be wild, what does wild mean to me
It means to believe in yourself when no one else will
It means to fight for what you believe in
It means to ignore the popular trends, and follow your own
It means to never give up or give in.

What does it mean to be wild, what does wild mean to me
It means to never settle for less
It means to always believe that you’re the best
It means to be anything you want to be
It means to follow your heart, and let it guide you.

What does it mean to be wild, what does wild mean to me
It means to live your life on your own terms
It means to be you, and never let anyone define you
Well at least that’s what wild means to me
What does it mean to you?

“What Does It Mean To Be Wild”, was inspired by India Arie’s interview with Oprah Winfrey on Super Soul Sunday. The lesson that I learned from India is that you have to live your life, and not let other people live their life through you.

In a few hours daylight savings time will end (Sunday November 3, at 2 am), and you will get one extra hour of sleep (oh yeah).
As they say it’s time to fall back, so don’t forget to set your clock back one hour!

Not only is the time going to change, but there will also be a solar eclipse.

Here are a few tips, if you want to check out the eclipse.

    1.    What parts of the world will see it?
The East Coast (USA),as well as northern South America, southern Europe, the Middle East and sections Africa.

    2.    What time will it take place?
…6:38 a.m. EST. The moon will move off the sun’s disc by 7:10 a.m., according to Geoff Chester, an astronomer at the U.S. Naval Observatory.

    3.    Viewing instructions
Don’t look directly at the sun, instead you need a pinhole camera.

    5.    Resources
           Solar eclipse
How to make a solar eclipse viewer

On a spiritual note the eclipse is a special time to remember Allah: The Prophet Muhammad (swt) said,
"When you see the eclipse, remember Allah and say takbir, pray and give Sadaqah." [Bukhari, 2:154]

    The eclipse prayer:

    * Stand up for prayer as normal, and make your intention for the eclipse prayer.
    * Recite Qur'an as you normally would.
    * Go into Rukoo' [bow] and prolong the rukoo' with duas [prayers].
    * Stand up and recite Qur'an again.
    * Go into Rukoo [bow] again and prolong the rukoo' with duas but not as long as the first rukoo'.
    * Stand up and then go into sujood [prostration] and prolong the sujood with duas.
    * Sit up straight.
    * Go into sujood again and prolong it [but not as long as the first sujood].
    * Repeat the above steps for the second raka'a [second unit of prayer]. [Bukhari, 2.154]

In addition on Sunday night at sunset the Islamic new year will begin.
The first month on the Islamic calendar is Muharram 1435, may Allah(God) bless you, and your family for the new year!

    Write Your Novel in November!

Have you ever wanted to write a novel, but never got around to it?

Have I got news for you, November is National Novel Writing Month also known as NaNoWriMo.

Here is the scoop on NaNoWriMo:

    •    This year will be the 15th annual NaNoWriMo.

    •    500,000 writers from around the world are expected to  participate this year.

    •    NaNoWriMo is one big creative writing challenge; your mission if you choose to accept is to write a 50,000 word novel from November 1st – 30th.

I participated in NaNoWriMo, last year it was fun, and inspiring with uplifting pep talks from experienced authors, and every kind of writing forum you could imagine.
Even though I did not reach 50,000 words I realized that if you can make a commitment to write a little each day you would be surprised how much you can accomplish.

Here are a few things to keep in mind

    1.    To reach 50,000 words in 30 days you would need to write at least 1,667 words a day.

    2.    Its not about quality, as it is quantity you can edit later just think of it as free writing.

    3.    Try to plan some time each day to write, find a time that works best for you.

    4.    NaNoWriMo is for new writers, and veteran writers.

    5.   The idea is to start writing; it does not have to be perfect you just have to take the first step.

    6.     To sign up, and learn more about NaNoWriMo go to nanowrimo.org

“In the words of Agatha Christie “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”

Is this your first NaNoWriMo? What made you decide to participate? Are you a NaNoWriMo veteran? What was your experience like?

    Dance

Let me tell you about something,
    something that makes me happy.
    Something great,
it’s really something you can appreciate.

Its mine and something no one can take.
Should I tell you what it is?
It’s something that has no borders or
boundaries something that speaks every language.

    It travels to every country.
It discriminates against no race, creed, or color.
You don’t need age young or old,
you don’t need permission education or registration.

You can be rich or you can be poor,
     it’s something everyone can enjoy.
Should I tell you what it is?
     It can be professional or informal;
it’s old and new but also ever changing.

You can practice or maybe just freestyle.
You can see it live on Broadway plays,
a Julliard stage or you could also see it on TV.

Like on ABDC, or dancing with the stars,
maybe you saw it back in the day on fame or today on taking the stage.
So now should I tell you,
or do you already know it’s beautiful its art its dance.

Mother's day poem for my Mom

Dear Mom, I tried to find a poem, a song, or even a quote to express how I feel about you on Mother’s day.

I had no luck finding the right one, so I have decided to write one, a poem, or speech to find the right words to tell you I love you.

However, there is so much more I feel that I could say, on this day of days.

Mom you did so much for me, you helped to shape me in to the woman that I have become to be, with your style, grace and love, the good Lord up above has truly blessed me.

You mother of mine, you are truly one of a kind, yes kind, gentle and caring, and truly knowledgeable and wise.

You have been there for all my ups and downs, smiles and frowns, yes mom if I had one I would give you a crown, because you are a queen to me.

I still feel there are so many more things to say and things that words can’t express, but know that I truly love you cause you are the best!!!!

Love you Mom, Happy Mother’s day !!!

    -          Your daughter  Aminah

    Reflections

    Reflections by *~Dawn~*, on Flickr

I just turned 25 and right now I am reflecting.
I am reflecting on where I have been and where I want to go.
I am reflecting on the things that,
I have done and the things I want to do.

I have changed my mind many times.
Times that I have tried to figure out what,
what is it that I want to do?
Where, where is it that I want to go?
The answer is the same, I don't really know.

I want to be this and I want to go there,
I want to be right and I want to be fair.
    I want to help people,
all people just the same maybe I don't even need to know their names.
What do you call that, what does it mean?

So right now I am reflecting on,
who I was and who I want to be come.
There are so many things to be and so many things to become.
All I need is one, one place to go, one thing to do,
one thing to be; but what that is I don't really know.

I know that I could do this or I could do that,
I could be this or I could be that.
If I could do it all then I would be just fine.
On the other hand it is said that you,
can't have your cake and eat it too.

So I ask you: What am I to do?
Am I to be this or that, but you cant answer that and you can't answer this.
I just turned 25 and right now I am reflecting,
because right now I don't really know.
I don't really know, but one day I will.
    One day I will!!!

    Many seasons come and go...

Fall Foliage by jdn, on Flickr

Many seasons come and go but autumn is the one I can’t let go,
    also known as fall,
when the leaves change their color and fall,
fall to the ground and hardly make a sound,
walking through the woods  you see reds, oranges, golds and browns.

You feel a chill in the air as the breeze passes you by,
you notice the hay and cornstalks in the corner of your eye,
this scene is beautiful, its classic its fall at its best.

As the sun sets and the temperature drops, food, fun, and friends is your next stop,
at a local cafĂ©  where inside feels  cozy and warm where the cold is at bay
where the menu is covered in fall eats, drinks, desserts and specialty sweets.

I’ll start with something hot like chocolate or apple cider with a hint of cinnamon,
with a side of Maple or pumpkin cheesecake to finish my order,
at last sitting and laughing with friends,
it’s not quite the same as spring and summer and nothing like winter
many seasons come and go but autumn is the one I can’t let go.
